High School Senior in Helena Studio
Barkley, last week, came into the studio for another photo session. Barkley is a rising senior and is a member of the Helena Belles. She has lots of different looks and is at ease in front of the camera. She and I always have a great time creating beautiful images to mark her last year in high school.
I have two different types of lighting in my studio–strobes and constant lights. The strobes are perfect for young children and groups of people. I prefer the constant lights for babies and for one to two people. With the constant lights, what you see is what you get. “Seeing” light separates the novice from the experienced photographer…working with my constant lights has helped me “see” light whether in the studio or on location. Barkley and I had a great time earlier this week when we spent some time and three outfits to show a few of Barkley’s “looks.”
My main light is camera left with a reflector camera right. My hair light is close to the wall and aimed toward the back of Barkley’s head to both separate her from the background as well as cast a little light on the wall. I used two different lenses on this shoot–my 70-200 (my favorite!) and my 24-120. We included the lights in some of the images to show our setup, and we loved showing Barkley “on set.” Here are a few of my favorites…
