Unscripted – Birmingham Alabama Photography Showcase

The fourth “Unscripted” Birmingham Alabama Photography Showcase will be held in my studio in Helena, AL, on Sunday, April 7, 2013. We are happy to announce our exhibiting artists: Dj Boyd, Laura Brookhart, and Gary Ricketts. Birmingham Alabama is home to many fine photographers. We are thrilled to have these photographers exhibit in the studio.

Nonna Tindal of Nonnas Catering and Events will be here again with her tasty treats! Please join us from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERADj Boyd is an accomplished fine art, travel, and wedding photographer in Birmingham where she has studied and practiced photography for 13 years. Dj processes and prints her own work on fine art materials. She is the current President of Shades Valley Camera Club where she has won numerous awards in club competitions; some of these images can be seen on the  SVCC website and flickr. Dj’s image of “Vulcan Yoga – Downward Dog” was featured on the cover of the September 2011 issue of the internationally distributed photo magazine Shutterbug. She received a Certificate of Photography from Samford University of Metro College in 2007 with combined course work from the University of Alabama at Birmingham continuing education program. She is also currently co-instructor for creative photography courses at Samford University “After Sundown” program.

Laura 2012 with camera

Laura Brookhart is an arranger and composer of images through the lens of her camera. A single image that engages her may become a springboard for a playful manipulation of whimsical juxtaposition. Multiple images and multiple layers are merged into a unified composition. Color is a primary inspiration, and she has always appreciated the abstract qualities of patina and texture. All of her images are printed with archival inks on archival paper or canvas. Laura has received many honors including being a 2011-12 Featured Artist at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens, SCAC Best of Photography 2012, and Award winner, 2011, Hoover Arts Alliance. Laura is a frequrent contributor to numerous local publications including Shelby Living.

Gary In New York

Gary Ricketts enjoyed a life-long career in television production and management. While at the ABC Television Network, one of the highlights of his career was covering the 1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympics for which Gary received the first of his three Emmys. Gary’s interest in photography spans several decades starting with a Kodak Brownie as his earliest camera. When he was shooting 35mm Kodachrome slides in the 1970’s, several of his photographs were published in regional magazines and newspapers. Many of Gary’s photographs were taken during trips to Europe including England, Spain, Czech Republic, and Hungary. Gary has been invited to several venues to give a presentation about his work, “Capturing History Through Photography.” His book, A Photographic Exploration – Volume One, is currently available from the Hoover Public Library. Gary will be exhibiting at the Hoover City Hall gallery beginning the first week of May 2013 through the end of June 2013.
